Ingo Taubhorn was Chief Curator of the House of Photography in the Deichtorhallen Hamburg from 2003 to 2023. In addition to his outstanding expertise as an exhibition maker, he has also been active as a photo artist for many years. In this dual role, he supervises the participating photographers for a year in the realization of their photographic works. The focus of the masterclass is on exchanging ideas about the medium of photography and examining the participants’ work.
But producing outstanding photographic works alone is not enough. From conception and production to presentation and distribution, a photographic project must meet numerous requirements in order to be shown. In addition to a coherent exhibition concept, an aesthetically outstanding visual language and professional implementation, the projects must convey relevant themes in a catchy way and appeal to a large, diverse audience in terms of both form and content. Additional components, such as publications, multimedia presentations and concepts for educational and outreach work, increase the chances of attracting the attention of curators and museum directors for their own work.
The masterclass covers the necessary know-how and the various aspects of designing and realizing an exhibition in collaboration with a national or international exhibition institution.
