FOTO-TALK »Photography and Activism«

6. March
19:00
Foto Talk Fotografie Aktivismus

Accompanying event to the exhibition BLACK IN BERLIN (Duration: February 23 – March 10, 2024).

Discussions about images often focus on the surplus, the so-called flood of images or, in contrast, the lack of images. Both modes of perception are linked to the question of who and what is represented and how is visibility created? The potentials of polarization, disruption and empowerment so often used in art influence the self-assurance of individual and collective identity.

Is there an urgent need today for a photographic authorship that sees itself as an activist in its self-positioning? To what extent can photography break through stereotypes and power relations in visual representation?

Together we will discuss the search for “missing” or “misleading” images of Black people and People of Color (PoC), and the role that photographers within and outside the Black community can play here.

In discussion: Yero Adugna Eticha (Photographer) and Benjamin Füglister (Chairman CAP Association | Executing African Photography Projects). Moderation: Ivy Nortey (Journalist).
