Accompanying program to the exhibition LIKE A WHIRLWIND – The Gender Plays by Marie Høeg & Bolette Berg.
This workshops main intent is to create safe spaces for queer, transgender and gender-fluid persons and also for those who are curios to photography, and the idea of performing for the camera. The workshop is meant to be a meeting place to reflect on gender identity and gender roles as well as an opportunity to express oneself through creativity.
To perform for the camera is a fundamental part of Paulina Tamara’s artistic practice and photography plays a central role when it comes to staging, documenting, and experimenting around concepts of identity. For the Norwegian photographers Marie Høeg and Bolette Berg, photography was more than a technique; it was a safe space that created an intimate public sphere. In this workshop, we aim to explore how people use the camera to investigate identity and whether we can still be inspired by Marie and Bolette. The goal is for each workshop participant to develop and execute their own ideas towards a final performance in front of the camera that results in images that reflect their identity.
The workshop PERFORMING FOR THE CAMERA at f³ – freiraum für fotografie is part of an ongoing collaboration between the photographer Paulina Tamara and PREUS Museum, which is Norway’s National Museum of Photography. The work produced will be presented in an upcoming exhibition in Norway.
